Lee Roy Selmon has a background that is a combination of family scholarships football with volunteering for the community. The first is his family. Lucious Selmon was the father of Jessie Selmon. The family raised nine kids on an Eufala farm. The second football was that he is the youngest of three brothers who played with Oklahoma. The three brothers were All-Americans. They made the All-America team in 1973. Lee Roy and Lucious Jr. Dewey were the players for one season. Lee Roy won the Outland and Lombardi Awards as the nation's best lineman. He won two championships and 32-1-1 in his three seasons as the Oklahoma's starting linebacker. Selmon was honored when the National Football Foundation named him an Scholar-Athlete for the 3rd time in 1975. Selmon graduated with a degree from the University of California at Berkeley. Lee Roy was involved in volunteering for ten hours per week while he attended college. In Tampa the Buccaneers, he was a player for the Buccaneers for nine seasons, and eventually became an all-pro. He also began an entrepreneurial career. In 1988, while working as an account relations officer at First Florida Bank of Tampa and worked for the Special Olympics Easter Seals Baptist Church Ronald McDonald House United Negro College Fund South Florida Institute Black Life Hall of Fame Bowl Committee. So it's not surprising that in 1982, the Junior Chamber of Commerce named him as one of the country's most outstanding young males. While a student Lee Roy was 6-2 and was weighing 256 pounds. He was captain of his college team in 1975. Lee Roy joined the University of South Florida in 1993 as an associate director of sports. In 1993, the College Football Hall of Fame recognized him as a member in the year 1988. GTE Academic All-America Hall of Fame, in 1994. Pro Football Hall of Fame, in 1995. The Selmons' parents Lucious as well as Mary Selmon, Jr. have been awarded the Distinguished American Award in 1989 from the Oklahoma City Chapter National Football Foundation. The award ceremony was conducted by Henry Bellmon govenor of Oklahoma.
